Features Riding Whether you are an accomplished rider or have never been in the saddle, riding at the R Lazy S will be a pleasurable experience that you will long remember. Since most of the pleasure of riding comes from good horses, beautiful scenery and confidence in the control of one's horse, the Ranch chooses it mounts and trails with care and pays particular attention to teaching the essentials of good horsemanship and trail riding.
Instruction: Our friendly and experienced wranglers strive to build confidence in new riders by thorough and patient instruction. Our riding arenas provide safe places for instruction and we encourage interested guests to take advantage of it. From our fine stable of over 80 horses, we select one that best fits your ability and experience and you keep that horse and tack for the length of your stay.
Scenic Rides: Morning and afternoon riders are divided into small groups according to ability and each is led by an experienced wrangler. The R Lazy S has approximately 17 different all-day rides. one may leave on horseback directly from the Ranch for rides to Phelps Lake or Granite Canyon. Horses and guests are also transported by truck and horse trailer for regularly scheduled rides to many trails in the valley, including rides to the "hard to get to" summer range of Wyoming's big game - elk, moose, buffalo, antelope, and deer.
Fishing The R Lazy S has direct access to several miles of private frontage on the Snake River, one of the West's top trout fishing streams. The Gros Ventre and Teton Rivers, plus many other streams and mountain lakes, known for the quality of fish caught, are also nearby. Highly qualified, licensed fishing guides are available for fishing trips and can give the novice fisherman instruction at the Ranch's stocked fishing pond. We ask our guests to release any fish that they do not wish to eat. Our cooks are happy to prepare your catch for breakfast, just the way you like it.
Water Sports Scenic float trips on the Snake River area available through professional outfitters. Half or full-day trips on quiet waters beneath the towering Tetons are enjoyed by many. The more adventuresome sign up for an exciting trip on whitewater stretches in the Snake River Canyon. Waterskiing is offered one afternoon a week on beautiful Jackson Lake, at the foot of the mountains. The Ranch "swimming hole" and creek afford swimming and "inner tubing" opportunities for our more hardy guests, and there are several warm-spring pools in the Valley.
Off Ranch Fun You can enjoy your entire stay right at the Ranch, or take advantage of many activities and sights available nearby. The Jackson Hole Rodeo is authentic and exciting. Also in Jackson are fine Western art galleries and several theaters presenting old-fashioned melodramas. There are several night spots offering excellent Western music for listening and dancing pleasure.. You can see Indian dances performed; shoot a round of golf on two beautiful 18-hole golf courses at the foot of the Tetons; play tennis or take mountain climbing instruction. You may choose to see quarter-horse shows and polo games; take part in the County Fair and parade; visit museums; enjoy a summer music festival and spectacular tram ride to the top of the Tetons at Teton Village. A day's trip to Yellowstone Park is always a great day for our guests. So that you may take advantage of the many off-ranch activities, we encourage you to have your own transportation
For Children We have a full program of activities for the younger guests (minimum age 7). Our special counselor and wranglers for children allow parents more freedom to enjoy some of their own activities. Interest for both children and teenagers centers around the horses. Their special riding program includes instruction, gymkhanas (games on horseback), half-day trail rides and all-day rides to nearby mountain lakes. The younger guests normally ride separate from the adults with their own wranglers, but family rides are scheduled when requested. Our recreation room is equipped to provide indoor activities and non-stop fun. An outdoor area is equipped with horseshoe pit and a volleyball court. A popular after-dinner event is a weekly softball game, enjoyed by younger guests, crew and adults alike. |
